HIGH DEFINITION multi-camera
On 26 March, I asked multiple HDCAM our work first through six cameras Sony HDW-F900 camcorders. It was a wonderful experience which has shown several things you should consider if you do similar work.
First, some details. We shot two shows stand up comedian Omid Djalili at the London Palladium. The production company that hired us had used before Procam drawing performance by comedian Ross Noble and other comic acts. The end use will be for a DVD release and possibly television.
We were asked that using F900 as the company wanted the best picture quality possible HDCAM. And, of course, shooting in HDCAM increases the potential for international sales. After talk to expert Paul Wheeler DR, we decided to shoot in 50i, the establishment of interlacing used for television broadcasting in the UK and Europe (PAL). Paul suggested this to get more of a direct gaze that use progressive scan setting (Play movie) would allow. (An e-zine covering the gap above between progressive and interlaced scanning with settings).
Downconverters
Using the F900 downconverters meant having to put the back of each chamber. Because the F900 has a single component output HDCAM. For the effective management of the filming I needed to see images of the six cameras in the gallery main thing we have created between racks. The use of the device component (RGB) production requires three cables from each camera on the wings of our set-up much more a task and the cost of managing a single BNC each Buck converter using the HD SDI output. Additionally, camera operators needed to use the chamber outlet HD Component to feed the 7-inch LCD HD went in his video camera handles so they do not have to look in the viewfinder than 90 minutes to control their shots.
Our engineer has concluded that downconverters, especially older models, are often not be trusted to judge the clarity of objective and fair. You must be very careful. We have some new downconverters Miranda and they were good when using the HD SDI output. On the bench of engineering in our offices, we discovered that when using the card SD (standard definition) SDI results are better when the camera is set to 24P. Otherwise, the image tends to be mild and visibility that you see on screen is not the same as the recorded image. The strongest signal came from the outputs for high definition components in the camera itself.
HD BNC Cables
A couple of comments here. First, if you use an HD-SDI and you need to run more than ten feet of cable you need to use BNC cables that are made to carry HDCAM signals. These cables are thicker and can carry more information. A standard BNC cable simply can not handle transporting the signal over a few meters and no control purpose.
Secondly, one of our HDCAM cables was about ten feet short of what is needed. We tried to use a cannon to reach the two HD BNC did not work. So we had to use the SD (standard definition) composite video output in the converter money, which, as explained above, is not ideal. To circumvent the problem of seeing images that appeared to be soft and overexposed, I maintained control camera operator with the communication system to ensure that saw a sharp image. As for the presentations, our engineers looked at the images through of an HD monitor waveform to confirm that they were good.
HD LCD Monitors
Behind the scenes of our gallery, we used two models discussed above screen in an electronic journal: The BT-LH1700WE Panasonic 17-inch LCD Monitor Sony LMD-9050 LCD monitor. It was the first time he had personally worked with them. Both are high definition monitors and both are excellent. The use of these new monitors, eliminated earlier concerns I had about LCD monitors are unable to offer the same picture quality as CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors. The colors were true, sharp images and Brightness and Contrast were consistent, regardless of the angle you see the instructors. They are lightweight and take up less space. And remember, not the environment.
Abstract
In short, if you use the F900 for a multi-use camera, use the latest model of Buck converter using a compatible HD cable BNC for longer runs and by all means the use of new models of high definition LCD monitors. And, of course, to see your Focus! Keep it sharp.
Paul Wheeler DVDs
We have some other DVD available with the interview I did with Paul Wheeler in high definition in December. To receive a free copy just send me an e-mail to cal@procamtv.com.
Until next time, happy shooting.
